There are many great things about tanning, whilst the warm feeling of UV rays upon your body is an obvious one, many of us are not actually aware of the true benefits that tanning can have on our Health and lives. We need regular exposure to sunlight on our skin so that we can make vitamin D which is vital for health. Casual exposure to the sun does not provide enough vitamin D in the British Isles and the majority of the population suffer from a vitimin D deficiency especially in the months from September to April.
The risk of skin cancer from sun exposure is much smaller than the public has been led to believe while the risks of vitamin D deficiency, are now known to be very substantial. Insufficient vitamin D at crucial times of life or for prolonged periods appears to increase the risk of several cancers, including breast and bowel cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis and many other chronic diseases including even tooth decay.
For more information visit www.healthresearchforum.org.uk. We adopt a ‘tan sensibly’, approach in all our salons and make sure that our clients are made aware of the dangers in over exposing themselves to sun light.
We undertake the following as a commitment to our clients:

Mystic Tan(TM) is a trademarked company that popularised the spray booth tanning concept. The tanning booth resembles a sauna or capsule. The client steps into the booth and then 30 seconds later exits with a gorgeous tan. These unique machines then clean themselves so they are ready for the next client.
The tanning process is simple, you simply disrobe, step into the booth, and at the push of a button you are sprayed with a fine mist of Aloe Vera enriched with Sunless-Tanning Solution.
This Sunless-Tan solution is similar to the solutions used in airbrush tanning which combine a bronzing colorant with DHA, a non-toxic sugar that attaches to dead skin cells and links to proteins beneath the skin. It is the effect of DHA on these proteins that causes the skin to gradually darken after a treatment. Added to this is the healing gel of aloe vera as well as a cosmetic bronzer.
There are three levels of darkness to choose from depending on how tanned you want to be. Your tanning salon consultant can help you decide what level is right for you.
The Mystic Spray Tan Booth employs a special kind of technology called MagneTan which attracts the particles to your skin, so creating an even all over application. The solution made by Mystic Tan is known for its natural, golden brown hue, and is of the highest quality.
Thanks to the bronzer that is in the formula, clients see instant results. However, it is the DHA component in the solution that allows the tan to continue to darken throughout the day.

The salons offer a variety of beauty treatments at very reasonable prices. The treatments include:
Ever wondered how those famous faces stay looking so young? Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion literally takes years off you by gently exfoliating the outer layers of skin.
Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion treats a vast array of skin problems, on both the face and body, by using a safe and controlled method of skin resurfacing. The treatment provides immediate visible results for ageing skin, lines & wrinkles, open pores, blackheads, pigmentation, blemish scars, acne scars, stretch marks and much, much more.
You'll see the difference even after just one treatment; however for more problematic skin problems a course may be recommended. With regular treatments, the skin increases its collagen and elastin formation, to give you a naturally firmer and more rejuvenated look. What's more, the gentle vacuum action gives the facial muscles a mini 'workout' each time, providing an immediate lifting effect and an ongoing improvement in tone.
The salons offer a variety of Dermalogica skincare treatments including a medicated clearing facial treatment for acne management and a rehydration treatment for dry or dehydrated skin.
Laser treatments or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can be used for a variety of different reasons. Prior to any of these treatments a laser specialist will provide a full consultation, explaining the treatment process and the likely outcome.
Intense Pulsed Light and Laser treatment gives permanent reduction of unwanted hair, destroying the hair root so that it can never re-grow. It is non-invasive, treatments are quick and results are seen in just a few sessions. Treatments also offer a long term solution for hormone related hair growth or large areas of unwanted hair.
How do Intense Pulsed Light and Lasers work?
Laser and Intense Pulsed Light systems release precisely controlled short bursts of light that are absorbed by melanin, the pigment in hair. This heats the hair and destroys the root to achieve long term hair reduction.
How is the treatment carried out?
You will be asked to wear goggles to protect your eyes. For Intense
Pulsed Light treatments a layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to guide the light into the skin. Laser treatments do not require the use of gel. The area will also be cooled to increase comfort during treatment.
The light guide is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, targeting many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled.
Do I need to avoid the sun?
Sun avoidance is essential. Daily use of a high factor, broad spectrum sun block is strongly advised.
Am I suitable for treatment?
The ideal patient is fair skinned with dark hair, but results can also be achieved for fairer hair and darker skin types. The darker the hair, the more easily it is treated, as darker hair contains more Melanin it will heat up more easily. Fairer hair contains less melanin and is harder to treat.
Grey/white hair has no melanin so cannot be effectively treated.
How does the treatment feel?
No anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable. Sensations vary but most describe it as a very short hot pin prick making it the preferred choice for hair removal.
What will I see after the treatment?
The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The hairs fall out after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to 'grow' as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.

The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The hairs fall out after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to 'grow' as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.
Is it safe?
The skin can become quite red immediately after treatment, however most patients experience no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours. Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or a small blister may form.
How many treatments are necessary?
Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 2 – 8 weeks, depending on the site treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The number of treatments required varies, but typically 6 or more treatments are required for maximum results.
How long does each treatment take?
Treatments can take from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated.
IPL /Laser is a fantastic treatment for mild to moderate active acne and its associated skin discolouration. It can be very effective at calming overactive oil glands and removing any bacterial infection, particularly when used with specialist skin care regime.
How does Intense Pulsed Light/Laser Work?
The IPL system releases yellow and red light that is emitted in a series of short pulses. The yellow/green light destroys the bacteria that live in the skin and cause acne, while the red light directly targets the overactive sebaceous glands that cause outbreaks of pustules. This targeted heating deep in the skin causes shrinkage of the inflamed sebaceous glands and helps to prevent overproduction of excess sebum.
How is the treatment carried out?
You will be asked to wear goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to cool the skin and guide the light. The light applicator is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released.
The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the whole area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area is moisturised. Each pulse of light treats a large area of skin and so the duration of the treatment is very short.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Almost everyone can be treated, apart from very dark skinned or tanned individuals. Pregnant women or people taking the acne treatment Roaccutane should not be treated.
How does the treatment feel?
The light energy is absorbed by the skin, and heats it up, creating a sharp, short-lived pinprick sensation. No anaesthesia is required, other than cooling the skin and most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable.
What should I expect after the treatment?
Redness and a slight warming sensation are normal after treatment. A cooling pack will be applied to the skin to ease these symptoms. It will be necessary to avoid sun exposure or use a high protection sunscreen for 2 weeks after the treatment.
Is it safe?
The treated area can become quite red immediately after treatment.
However, most patients experience no side effects and the redness usually disappears within a couple of hours. Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or a small blister may form. It is possible that some hair loss will occur in the area treated, and it could be permanent, so men should consider this possibility before agreeing to treatment of their beard area.
How long does each treatment take?
A typical treatment session will take in the region of 30 minutes. Typically
Intense Pulsed Light treatment is combined with glycolic acid facial peel treatments or microdermabrasion for maximum results.
How many treatments are necessary?
The number of treatments necessary varies from person to person, but typically 6 Intense Pulsed Light and 6 Glycolic acid peel treatments will result in significant improvement, depending on the severity of the condition. Intense Pulsed Light treatments should take place fortnightly, with glycolic acid peel between treatments.
Intense Pulsed Light/Laser offers a breakthrough for thread veins and permanent red flushing, as it can effectively and quickly remove veins that are too small for other removal techniques. Laser treatment can be used to remove deeper, thicker veins that can appear around the nose or on the legs.
How does the treatment work?
The intense pulsed light and laser system releases precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light that are absorbed by the blood vessel, heating it to a point where it is destroyed. Following treatment the vessels quickly clear and are reabsorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original lesion.
Which types of veins can be treated?
Most red skin lesions including facial thread veins, rosacea, spider naevi, port wine stains and leg veins up to 3mm diameter (by laser).
How is the treatment carried out?
You will be asked to wear goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to guide the light into the skin. The light applicator is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled.
Am I suitable for treatment?
The fairer the skin, the easier the treatment. The best response is seen with small thread veins, spider naevi and rosacea. If there are any areas of broken skin, treatment has to be delayed until the area has completely healed.
How does the treatment feel?
No anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable. Sensations vary but most describe it as a very quick hot pin prick.
Is it safe?
After treatment the area may feel warm for a few hours. Rarely some delicate skin areas such as the cheeks or décolleté could be red and slightly swollen for up to 48 hours. The vessels should fade quickly. Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or a small blister may form.
How long does each treatment take?
Treatments typically take from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the type and size of lesion.
Intense Pulsed Light/Laser offers a very effective treatment for pigmented marks such as age/liver spots and freckles that appear on the face and hands. Laser treatment can remove deeper, larger areas of pigmentation such as birthmarks. Both treatments are non-invasive and result in a more even skin tone.
How do Intense Pulsed Light and Lasers work?
Intense pulsed light systems release precisely controlled, very short pulses of filtered light that are absorbed by the melanin in freckles, sun spots or liver spots. The pigmented area absorbs the light and is heated, and is removed by skin renewal. Following treatment, the pigmented area turns darker and may crust. Over the following weeks the pigmented area will gradually flake away from the skin leaving little trace of the original mark.
How is the treatment carried out?
You will be asked to wear goggles to protect your eyes. In Intense Pulsed Light treatments, a layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to guide light into the skin. The area may also be cooled to increase comfort during treatment. The light applicator is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Yes, almost everyone can be treated, apart from very dark skinned or tanned individuals. However, large, dark, mottled or raised pigmentation cannot be treated and may need to be checked by a dermatologist. Not all pigmented lesions can be treated, large, dark moles should not be treated, nor should lesions covering a large part of the body. The pigmented marks that respond the best are superficial lesions such as those caused by sun damage (sun spots) and freckles.
How does the treatment feel?
Most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable. No anaesthesia is required. Sensations vary but most describe it as a very short hot pin prick.
What should I expect after the treatment?
The area will be tender for several days after treatment. After Intense Pulsed Light treatment the lesion will darken and may appear more obvious, but will gradually fade and 'flake' off over the following weeks. After laser treatment an initial whitening of the area is seen which quickly fades and the pigmentation will fade over the following few weeks. It is important that any crusts are not picked and the skin is allowed to heal naturally.
How long does each treatment take?
The length of each treatment will depend on the type and size of lesion present, but a typical session will take 15 to 30 minutes.
How many treatments are necessary?
The number of treatments will depend on the type and size of pigmented mark present, but typically 1 – 3 treatments will be needed. Treatments should take place approximately every 4 to 6 weeks.
Intense Pulsed Light offers a breakthrough treatment for signs of ageing caused by sun damage, such as brown spots (pigmentation), redness (thread veins) and poor skin texture (collagen). Pulsed light can quickly remove brown and red areas and stimulate production of new collagen. It is particularly effective when combined with other treatments such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion.
How does Intense Pulsed Light work?
Intense pulsed light systems release precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light that stimulate the fibroblast cells within the skin that produce collagen and elastin. This improves the radiance and tightness of the skin, controlling enlarged pores, and giving a more uniform complexion.
How is the treatment carried out?
The skin is thoroughly cleansed, and then a mild, relaxing skin peel or
microdermabrasion is applied. Both of these techniques remove the top layers of dead skin, leaving the skin feeling smoother and refreshed.
A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to guide the light into the skin. The light applicator is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area cooled.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Yes, the ideal patient is fair skinned but Lynton Lasers’ systems have pre-programmed settings to maximise results for different skin types. If there are any areas of broken skin, treatment is delayed until the area has completely healed.
How does the treatment feel?
No anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable and liken it to a quick pin prick.
Is it safe?
The skin of some patients becomes quite red after treatment. Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or a small blister may form. However, most patients experience no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours.
What should I expect after the treatment?
Redness and a slight warming sensation are normal after treatment. A cooling pack will be applied to the skin to ease these symptoms. You may see a darkening of any pigmented spots before they flake off, leading to an evening of skin tone. Tightening of the skin should increase over the following months as new collagen is deposited within the dermis. Some patients notice a slight swelling over the cheekbones, which may last up to 72 hours.
How many treatments are necessary?
Treatments are carried out every 2 – 3 weeks and 6 treatments are recommended for maximum results. Thereafter top-up sessions are performed as required.
What are dermal fillers?
Hydrafill is the brand name of a filler material that is now widely used by dermatologists for facial wrinkles and lines. It is a long-lasting and crystal-clear gel.
Hydrafill smoothes wrinkles and enhances lips instantly. The treatment is performed by injecting Hydrafill into the skin or lip, and because no pre-test is needed it takes less than 30 minutes. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore dissolves naturally with time.
The Procedure
Hydrafill is injected into the dermis and provides volume where the concentration of the body’s own hyaluronic acid has decreased. One treatment session takes about 30 minutes. The results can be seen immediately and no scars or other marks are left on the face. Even though the treated area can swell up somewhat and be red for up to one day afterwards, it is quite possible to meet other people and work as normal. The patented stabilization method means that Hydrafill has a longer-lasting effect than competing preparations. The treatment takes about 30 minutes and the result is immediate, as opposed to other cosmetic procedures such as Bo-Tox injections which take time to produce the desired effect.
Will I need anaesthesia?
When treating wrinkles, pain relief is usually not needed but can be easily achieved by prior application of anaesthetic cream.
What are the side effects / risks?
Reactions are very uncommon, but about 1 in 2000 people have experienced swelling, redness and tenderness up to several weeks after treatment. For further details concerning your specific treatment, please consult the doctor.
Immediately after the treatment, the treated area can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection, and it generally goes away in a day or two.
How long will the treatment last?
How long the effect of Hydrafill treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. However, we know that for the majority of the patients treated about 50-80 % of the effect remains after 6 months. Most people choose to have a touch up done within a year of the original treatment. Clinical studies show that Hydrafill can offer a high degree of patient satisfaction up to one year after treatment.
How Is Hydrafill Produced?
The hyaluronic acid in Hydrafill is, in contrast to other similar substances, not produced from animals. This means no risk for adverse events.
Which Areas Can Be Treated?
The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips but also other sites can be treated. Very superficial or very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct. Please consult your physician for a judgment.
Do The Injections Hurt?
It is very individual depending on how pain sensitive you are. The injections may prick a little but normally, no anesthesia is needed for treatment of wrinkles and folds. Most people report that the injections are relatively painless. A lip treatment can be quite uncomfortable and therefore, a nerve block is normally provided.
Is It Dangerous?
Hydrafill is a safe product. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, the skin does not react to the material. With over 100 000 people treated today, only a very small number of reactions have been reported. These reactions may consist of prolonged but temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness. Reactions resolve spontaneously.
How Will My Skin Look After The Treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, there may be a slight redness, swelling, tenderness or itching sensation at the treated area. This is only normal cause of the injection and the inconvenience is temporary, it generally goes away in a day or two. After a lip treatment, the lips may get swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a couple of days but should not last longer than a week. If the swelling or discomfort persists then it is advisable to contact your doctor.

Laser white teeth guaranteed…. at a price that will make you smile. In just over one hour and in only one visit, you could have beautiful white teeth. It’s really that simple!
How does Laser white teeth whitening work?
The surface of your teeth contains millions of microscopic pores and over time, organic compounds from food, fizzy drinks, tea, coffee and tobacco can settle into these pores and cause discolouration of the tooth enamel.
All you have to do is sit back, relax and let the teeth whitening practitioner do their work. A comfortable whitening gel is placed over your teeth which is then activated by a light source and enables the gel to swiftly penetrate the discolouration on your teeth.
The structure of the tooth is not changed; only the tooth colour is made lighter and whiter. Fillings, Crowns, and Bonding will not lighten. Almost all natural teeth respond to the process.
For optimum results, 3 applications of whitening gel are applied for 10 minutes each. The whole process is complete in only one visit lasting just over one hour (allow 90 minutes for your appointment). Even if you require a fourth application plus a maintenance kit you will still only be charged the one price for the complete service. Our mission is to have you walking out the door with the whitest smile you have had in a very long time.
Why do teeth discolour?
There are many causes. The most common include genetics, aging, consumption of staining substances, tetracycline (antibiotic) staining, excessive fluoride, and old fillings. Whitening toothpaste can remove stain that is on the outside of the teeth. This is called extrinsic staining, (external staining). However, whitening toothpaste will not change the colour or intrinsic staining, (internal staining), of the teeth. That is why teeth whitening is so popular today!
How long will the results last?
Your teeth will stay noticeably whiter for 18 – 24 months however periodic touch-ups, such as a one ten minute top-up “laser” treatment every 6 – 12 months should be performed to keep the smile at its brightest.
Am I eligible to have my teeth whitened?
To be eligible for this treatment you must:
Do I need to do anything prior to attending my appointment?
We advise that you brush your teeth to remove the salivary pellicle from the tooth surface as this can affect the result.
If you have sensitive teeth, we advise you to use a tooth paste for sensitive teeth 1 week prior to your appointment. This can reduce the risk of sensitivity.
What do I need to do following my appointment?
You should ensure that you do not brush your teeth for 24 hours after treatment as the gel is still active during this time.
Smokers are advised to refrain from smoking for 24 hours. If this is not possible then for at least 4 hours after whitening.
Clients may experience some degree of sensitivity during the 24 to 48 hours following treatment but this is normal and is a temporary side effect. In most cases it is mild to moderate but in a minority of cases it can be quite sensitive. If you experience extreme sensitivity you should call your technician.
Tooth staining foods have to be avoided for at least 24 hours after laser whitening but ideally 48 hours. These include:
