‘Tan Sensibly’ with The Sun Studio

The Sun Studio is committed to providing its clients with a safe environment for tanning and offers rigorous staff training, maintenance of equipment and tubes, hygienic salons, convenient hours, and a friendly atmosphere.

Tanning can have many health benefits when done safely and sensibly, as it helps the body produce Vitamin D, which is essential for good health. The Sun Studio recommends that customers tan responsibly in order to maximize the positive benefits of sun exposure while minimizing any risks associated with over-exposure.

Established in 2000 in Witham, Essex, we specialise in UV sunlight tanning and beauty treatments. Clients can rest assured that we are responsible, reliable and trustworthy. All our staff are trained to the highest standard to provide excellent customer care and the best possible advice to our clients.

Our Salon conforms to, and our tanning equipment complies with, the latest EU Tanning Regulation governing the maximum UV output of sunbeds. This is generally referred to as 0.3 and is approved by the EU, and complies with all British and European consumer safety regulations.

  • Description text goes hereThere is a regulation governing the maximum UV output of sunbeds. This is generally referred to as 0.3 and is approved by the EU and complies with all British and European consumer safety regulations.

A 0.3 tanning session delivers the same tanning effect as the mid-day Mediterranean summer sun but without the risk of burning.

0.3W/m2 is the amount of UV exposure that the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) set as the limit for effective irradiance. This limit was then added to the European and British standards relevant to sunbeds. A sunbed with a UV output above this level is deemed as ‘unsafe’.

What you can expect from a 0.3 tanning session:

    • Your tan will be deeper and longer-lasting

    • The tanning process is kinder to your skin

    • The risk of over-exposure or burning is effectively eliminated

  • It’s a fact that when the sun shines, we feel better, happier and more active. As well as the psychological effect, it also has real positive benefits for our health, which have been well-established by researchers over many decades.

To the Ancient cultures, the sun was an object of worship both as a god and as a shortcut to looking good. By the 18th century, tanned skin was firmly associated with people who had to work outdoors – in other words, it had become a class issue. Rich ladies stayed in the shade with their pale skins, and the labouring classes baked themselves in the sun.

In the 20th century, the tanned look became fashionable in a way not seen since the end of the Roman era. Ironically, the return to tanning was not to do with looking good but was through the encouragement of doctors who recognised the positive effects which sunlight has on bone conditions such as rickets. Today, an attractive tan is equated with good looks, health & success and is perceived as attractive, healthy and radiant.

Most people find sunbathing a very relaxing, sensual experience, helping them to unwind. However, the majority of us are forced to live in such a way that, for most of the year, we receive too little sunlight. We spend many hours in factories, offices, cars, trains, buses and houses where we are well shielded from sunlight. This lack of sunlight can lead to deficiencies and health problems, but our tanning equipment can help you redress the balance.

Everyone knows that by coming to a solarium, they can get a tan, but what most people are not aware of the other benefits they can gain by using artificial sunlight. We like to educate our customers to understand the full effects of using our tanning equipment. The more people learn and understand, the more they talk and educate others. Sunlight, either natural or artificial, is good for you if used in the correct manner.

  • Our sensible approach to tanning and skin care fully complies with regulations put in place by the Health and Safety Executive in the UK (HSEINDG 209). We also have our own extensive in-house quality and hygiene standards, which exceed the guidelines.

We will always ensure your course of UV tanning is regulated with technology so over-exposure does not occur.

  • There are many health benefits associated with responsible UV tanning that are now being recognised. UV light is vital for the production of vitamin D.

Bone: Vitamin D regulates the absorption and use of calcium and phosphorus. These minerals are vital for the development and hardening of bones and teeth.

Immune system: Parts of the bone marrow, where immune white blood cells are made, respond to vitamin D. These play a role in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.

Hormones: By playing a role in the secretion of insulin by the pancreas, vitamin D helps to regulate sugar levels.

Nervous system: Vitamin D ensures the functioning of healthy nerves and muscles by regulating calcium in the blood, which is vital for nerve impulse transmission and muscle contraction.
